The Enemy Kept Targeting Her, But God Restored
When Sharon and Thomas Andrews married on May 14, 2006, they dreamed of starting a family right away, just like Sharon’s parents. However, things didn’t quite unfold as they had hoped.
Sharon shares, “When God showed me that it was part of my life plan to be a mom I was overjoyed. I'd really seen that in my parents and the joy that they had having children young. I wanted to follow in their footsteps. We had no idea that we would struggle this much with infertility. I had no idea that that something that would happen to us”
After two years of trying to conceive, Sharon was diagnosed with type two diabetes and polycystic ovarian syndrome. She began taking medication to control her blood sugar. Then, in 2012, they finally conceived.
Sharon says, “We're very excited. Our beautiful baby was growing and everything was wonderful.”
However, at 15 weeks’ gestation, Sharon’s blood sugar suddenly spiked. During a routine checkup, the Andrews received devastating news. The baby’s heart had stopped.
Sharon remembers, “She was completely still and not moving. We needed time to process; we needed time to grieve.”
Then, two months later, they had another miscarriage.
Sharon recalls, “We cried out to the Lord, ‘how was this your promises?’ But he answered with, with comfort and he answered with peace. We were very strong in our faith and that was really important to us.”
Through their pain and confusion, they kept trusting God. Over the next four years, Sharon and Thomas visited 15 infertility specialists. She was eventually diagnosed with Factor V Leiden, a rare genetic disorder that causes blood clots in the placenta. Doctors prescribed blood thinners to reduce her risk of miscarriage. During this time, they also became foster parents, hoping to adopt. After a year, the children were returned to their biological father.
Sharon says, “To have children that loved me and ran into my arms and called me mom one day and did not have them in my home. It felt like a very similar grief as going through a miscarriage.”
In 2015, Sharon endured three more miscarriages. That same year, her sister died unexpectedly adding to her grief. Sharon held onto hope and created a necklace with seven birthstones, one for each of the children they lost through miscarriage and foster care.
Sharon shares, “Even though they're passed away, they still live on and I believe, and I have hope that I will see all five of them in heaven.”
Eventually, they found a specialist in New York who offered a new treatment protocol. On their very first attempt Sharon became pregnant with twins.
Sharon says, “At that first ultrasound, we could already see twins and two separate sacks with two separate placenta, and we could already see both of their hearts already beating. And we wanted to give all the thanks and all of the glory to the Lord.”
However, at just seven weeks, danger returned. Sharon developed life-threatening blood clots in both sides of her neck. Doctors urged her to terminate her pregnancy and she refused. No longer in ICU, Sharon left the hospital in stable condition and continued trusting God.
Sharon recalls, “I knew that the Lord would keep me and sustain me for his purposes and his timing. So, I continued to pray.”
Soon after, the Andrews found a new doctor willing to prescribe a higher dosage of blood thinners.
Sharon shares, “I just felt this great peace come over me, that God had a plan and that things were gonna be okay.”
And they were. On September 24, 2016, she gave birth to healthy twins.
Sharon remembers, “The day that my twins were born, there was, a double rainbow at the hospital. And when I saw that, I knew that it was God's fulfillment of his promise to me to be a mom.”
Though William and Bethany, arrived four weeks early, they were strong and just after nine days in the NICU, they came home.
Sharon shares, “It was incredible to finally, hold my twins to see that I was able to carry a pregnancy all the way through. I finally had my home with my family.”
God not only healed Sharon’s body, He also healed her heart from all the trauma and years of loss.
Sharon says, “God restored my joy. And because my neck was healed, I could be a good mom to them. I could drive again. I could lift things again. And I knew that I could only have that experience, because of the Lord and the miracle that it did in my life.”
Today, Sharon ministers to other mothers facing infertility. Her message is clear: God is faithful, His timing is perfect, and miracles are real.
Sharon shares, “I'm so glad that God has blessed me with such an amazing and wonderful family. We serve a God who is a healer. And no matter what you are going through, you can hang on to those promises that He's faithful. And spending time in prayer and trusting His plan and trusting that He makes everything beautiful in His timing.”
