Rubble to Relief: A Child’s Survival Story
8-year-old Francine recalled, “When it shook, I was trapped under the rubble with my mother. Then we were saved by my cousin. It was still shaking even when we were already outside. I prayed, ‘Lord! I thank you, Lord!’”
On Septmeber 30th, 2025, the province of Cebu, Philippines was struck by a 6.9 magnitutude earthquake. It caused buildings to collapse and damaged critical infrustructure. Francine and her relatives lost their homes and struggled to find food and drinking water. Francine’s grandfather knew their situation was desperate.
Francine’s Grandfather, Vicente, explained, “There was nothing left of their house. I didn’t have anything left either. Now we are living with 11 other family members, and all we have left are 3 gallons of drinking water. We’re sharing a small bottle between two people.”
Operation Blessing then brought in hundreds of bags of food, fixed water pipelines, and provided medical checkups and medicines to areas of the Philippines that needed it the most. In Francine’s province of Cebu, we set up a water purification system that uses filtration, UV light treatment, and ionization. It also removes iron and excess calcium, making clean and safe drinking water available to more than 3,000 families.
