Now They Smile Without Shame

14-year-old Htoo (too) was born with a cleft lip. His parents, Sein (sane) and Myint (me’-ya) have been saving to pay for surgery his entire life.

“When Htoo was born,” Sein told us, “The doctor knew we couldn’t afford surgery. So, our plan was to wait until we could save money for his operation.”

Sein and Myint worked hard making bamboo baskets and doing odd jobs to save for the surgery.  Then they had 2 more children. BOTH were born with cleft lips!

People blamed me for my three children’s conditions and said I didn’t take enough supplements,” said Myint. “Sometimes I would get upset. But mostly, I was worried because they mocked my children.”

“I want to get my lip fixed,” said the shy teen, Htoo. “But I never asked my parents for it because I know they cannot afford it.”

Then a teacher told the family about Operation Blessing. Thanks to YOU, we took all three children to the hospital and paid for them to receive surgery to repair their cleft lips.
All of the operations were a success!

“Before surgery no one could understand what they were saying,” said Sein. “But now everyone can understand them! That brings me so much peace.”

“It was impossible for us to pay for the surgeries,” declared the happy mother.  “But the people who support Operation Blessing helped us!  We are so grateful!”

“Now  I have a joy in my heart like never before,” added Htoo. “And seeing my siblings smile makes me so happy. Thank you!”
