From Hopeless to Healed: Baby Marsha’s Miracle Smile

Wila (Wee’-laa) was heartbroken when her daughter Marsha was born with a cleft lip. “I felt so hurt and disappointed,” she told us. “I even blamed myself, thinking, ‘I’ve failed as a mother.’
When people asked, ‘Why does your daughter look like that?’ I really don’t know what to say. It just breaks my heart.”

Wila and her husband Menifati (Many-fah’-tee) constantly worried about their daughter’s condition and future.  “It scared me when milk came out of her nose while she was drinking from her bottle,” shared Wila. “When she grows up, I am afraid she’ll feel ashamed when she looks at herself in the mirror.  I also worry that she will be bullied.”

The young couple had already been struggling financially. Their daughter’s cleft lip made their situation worse.  “I work as a staff member at the local police station,” said Menifati. “I only earned about 65-dollars a month. It hurts me deeply to see my daughter like this,” he added, emotion filling his eyes. “Especially since we could never save enough for her surgery.”

Then one day a Pastor told them about Operation Blessing. Thanks to YOU, Marsha received the surgery she needed to repair her lip.  “God is so good!”declared Wila, who is a Christian. “He knows our situation. He knows we couldn’t afford this on our own!”

Marsha’s lip has now healed, and her parents love her new smile.  “Thank you to the people who support Operation Blessing. Thank you for making Marsha’s surgery possible. Now she can smile like other kids. Thank you and God bless you!” said Wila with a smile.
