The Baby She Had to Hide

The day Imole was born with a cleft lip, his mother didn’t know what to think.

“When I saw my baby for the first time, I was in shock, because I had never seen anything like that. Ever since then, I cry all the time. I ask many questions when I pray, “God what happened? Who did I offend? What will we do?” Some people even say, “This is an evil child,” so I am always hiding my baby.” – Oluwatoyin

Imole had a very hard time eating, so he got malnourished, and was often sick. His mother, Oluwatoyin, was heartbroken, feeling helpless as she watched her baby suffer.

“Half of his food goes to waste.  I usually visit the clinic at least two times a month. They say my baby is not adding weight, and that just makes me cry even more.” - Oluwatoyin

Imole’s parents knew their baby needed surgery, but they couldn’t afford it. Oluwatoyin runs a small shop selling drinks and snacks, and her husband drives a taxi. Their income was barely enough to provide basic necessities for the family.  When the Operation Blessing team heard about Imole, we reached out to his parents and offered to pay for the procedure.  Thanks to your generosity, Imole got the surgery he needed.
