48 Hours to Live

Soon after Yijia was born, her parents arranged a traditional Miao blessing ceremony for her.

“We got a witch to come,” her father explains.  “She lit incense and started chanting and praying to the gods to give Yijia a healthy life.” 

Yet just a few days later, Yijia got sick, and her stomach started swelling-up.  

Mr. Huang says, “My mother suggested we get witch involved.  When he saw Yijia, he said she was possessed by an evil spirit and did an exorcism.”  With disappointment he adds, “But nothing changed.”

Mrs. Huang recalls, Yijia vomited everything she’d eaten.  She had a high fever and was hunched over.  She kept crying and shaking.  Then, her cries began to weaken.  It felt like she was dying.  I told my husband we had to get her to the hospital as soon as possible.”

Yijia was rushed to ICU.  It turned out her intestines were twisted, and she couldn’t digest food.   

Mrs. Huang expounds, “The doctor said there was a lot of rotten food in her stomach, and her intestines were severely infected by bacteria.  She needed surgery within 48 hours or her intestines could completely stop working and her respiratory system could fail.”

No friends would loan the Huangs money.  Some even said they should give up on Yijia. 

“There was no way we’d give up on our baby,” Mr. Huang proclaims.  “She was waiting for us to save her.  We knew if we took Yijia home, she’d die within a few days.  But we were powerless to help.  Our whole world went dark.” 

The couple couldn't afford the surgery. After hearing the dilemma, their doctor connected them to Operation Blessing to help get Yijia surgery.

“Now Yijia eats and digests like a normal baby.  Her skin is pink again, and she lies in my arms and smiles,” exclaims Mrs. Huang.  “Thanks to Operation Blessing, my daughter is alive.”

Mr. Huang adds, “You saved my daughter's life.  She likes to play in the field and loves to laugh now.”  He concludes, “An Operation Blessing volunteer visited us and told us that there’s only one God and His name is Jesus, and Jesus loves us. The volunteer prayed for us, and that gave me peace.  Now, we believe that this God is the true God.  Thank you to the Operation Blessing donors and volunteers.  And thank you most of all to Jesus.”
