A Mother’s Desperate Prayer

“7-year-old Genesis developed a hernia a few years back. Her mother said she first noticed it as a lump that appeared on her inner thigh. “I was surprised to see that her one leg was more swollen than the other,” said Maria, her mom. "Genesis said when the lump appears her leg hurts a lot. The pain was very strong. I could not stand it.”

Maria blamed herself for her daughter's condition. “I worked in a factory when I was pregnant with Genesis,” said Maria struggling to hold back the emotion. “I lifted a lot of weight and I thought that might be the thing that caused it.”

Maria took her daughter to the doctor, who confirmed that Genesis had a hernia and that she needed surgery. She said she knew they could not afford it. “My husband earns $250 a month. But we have to pay for food, water and household expenses.”

So Maria told us she prayed. “When Genesis can't sleep, I grab the Bible and start reading it to her,” Maria said. “I prayed and ask God to heal my daughter.”

Then Operation Blessing provided free surgery for Genesis to repair the hernia. The surgeon also repaired a second hernia that they discovered during her pre-surgery exam. "Before, my leg hurt every time I ran, but now I'm better, nothing hurts anymore, I can run and play with my sisters,” said a happy Genesis.

“We thank Operation Blessing and the people who supported my daughter,” added a grateful mom.

“Thank you for paying for my surgery," Genesis concluded.
