Baby Maria was born prematurely.  That was a challenge for her young mother, who is a single parent. Then a doctor told her that Maria had also been born with a serious congenital heart defect.  “They did some tests on her. He said the vein that connects to her lungs was too wide and transporting too much blood. He said caused her lungs to fill with fluid,” Stefany told us.  

Before she left the hospital, the cardiologist warned that without an operation, Maria could face critical complications, including heart failure and permanent lung damage. “They told me that there was zero chance that she would survive if she didn’t have surgery,” said the tearful mother. “I did not expect that news.”

Stefany was forced to quit her job to care of Maria. So paying thousands of dollars for heart surgery was impossible. “It’s been so hard, because I already lost one baby. I could not imagine what it would be like to lose another child.”
