Husband of Sudan Woman: Family Tired but Thankful

The husband of Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman who refused to recant her Christian faith, said his family is healthy but very tired after finally arriving in the United States.

Ibrahim narrowly escaped a death sentence for apostasy only to find herself temporarily trapped at the U.S Embassy in Khartoum after Sudan blocked her from leaving the country.

The Sudanese government claimed she abandoned Islam when she married her Christian husband, but Ibrahim said she's always been a Christian.

Last Friday, she and her family finally arrived in the United States. They stopped in Philadelphia before joining her in-laws at their home in New Hampshire.

"She is tremendously strong...her faith gives her almost a certain aura about her," Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter told CBN News.

"The ordeal that she and her family had been through and to come to this city of faith... I talked about William Penn and the founding of Philadelphia... on the tenants of religious freedom and tolerance and openness and the ability to practice your faith, and both of them smiled," he said.

Ibrahim's husband thanked members of Congress, human rights groups, and other diplomats and lawyers who helped free his wife.
