Alabama's House of Representatives has approved the Freedom of Religion in Marriage Act.

The bill says no one can require a judge, minister, or church to perform a wedding against their convictions.

The measure gives civil immunity to churches, ministers, and religious-affiliated organizations if they refuse to host or recognize a wedding.

Opponents of the bill argue it could lead to discrimination because it would allow religious-affiliated organizations to deny recognition to gay marriages.

The bill will now move on to the Alabama Senate.
