Iranian Official: We Can Reverse Deal in One Day
While the White House promises 'action' should Iran default on the recently brokered nuclear deal with six world powers, the Islamic Republic's top negotiator boasted that the concessions it made could be reversed in one day.
"We can return again to 20 percent [uranium] enrichment in less than one day and we can convert the [nuclear] material again," Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Iranian television, The Daily Beast reported on Friday.
While Iran boasts of the ease of reversing its commitments under the deal, billions of dollars in sanctions relief are irreversible, despite the Obama administration's rhetoric.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's warnings against easing sanctions went unheeded. He called the deal "an historic mistake."
"What was agreed to last night in Geneva is not an historic agreement; it is an historic mistake," the prime minister said following the announcement in November. "Today the world has become a much more dangerous place because the most dangerous regime in the world has taken a significant step toward attaining the most dangerous weapon in the world."
Meanwhile, Senate Major Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, reportedly under pressure from the White House, plans to block a vote supported by a majority of senators to impose tough new sanctions should Iran default on its commitments under the agreement.
