Thando Discovers His True Identity in Christ
In South Africa, seven-year-old Thando was facing a struggle that many children experience but few know how to express—he was questioning his identity and self-worth. Born with beautiful, natural curly hair, Thando didn’t feel like it was “nice enough.” One day, his father walked in on him trying to straighten his hair, hoping it would look more like the straight hair of Caucasian or Indian children. That moment revealed a deeper pain: Thando didn’t feel good enough just as he was.
This heartbreaking scene was a reflection of a child trying to fit into a world that often celebrates appearances over authenticity. But God had a plan to speak directly to Thando’s heart—through CBN Animation’s Superbook series.
A New Perspective Through Superbook
Thando began watching Superbook episodes, and two stories in particular began to change everything: “In the Beginning” and “Naaman and the Servant Girl.” These episodes taught him about faith, obedience, and the unconditional love of God. He saw how Adam and Eve’s disobedience had serious consequences, and it made him reflect on the importance of following God’s plan.
This realization helped Thando understand that God’s plan is always for our good. He began to ask deeper questions like:
“Why are we always asking God for everything when he has already done so much for us?”
Through these stories, Thando discovered that everything belongs to God and that he is already blessed. The story of Naaman showed him that God can use anyone—no matter their status or background. The servant girl’s courage and faith helped Naaman find healing, and Thando saw that he, too, had value and purpose.
God can use anyone, no matter where they are in life.
A Heart Transformed
This revelation sparked a transformation in Thando. He began to embrace who he was. He understood that his worth wasn’t tied to his appearance but to who God says he is. He became more confident, more expressive, and more in touch with his emotions. He learned to speak up when something made him uncomfortable and to trust God in moments of fear.
Thando learned that “who you are is not about what you look like but about who God says you are.”
Thando’s journey didn’t stop there. One night, after watching a scary movie, he felt overwhelmed and afraid. But instead of staying scared, he turned on Superbook. The series reminded him that Jesus is always near, ready to help and heal.
“Jesus can save people,” Thando shared. “When you feel like you’re in trouble and no one can help you, God is always there.”
Superbook gave Thando peace. He realized that God is a miracle worker, and that he loves and helps people no matter who they are. When fear crept in, Thando remembered that God is bigger than anything scary.
A New Way of Living
Thando’s life began to reflect the truths he learned. He started walking in confidence, knowing who he is in Christ. He became more open about his feelings, more courageous in expressing his emotions, and more grounded in his faith.
“I now trust that God is always with me and that I don’t have to be afraid.”
He began to see the truth and live it out—choosing to do the right thing, even when it’s hard. He learned that God created him uniquely for a reason and that he doesn’t need to change who he is to be loved.
“Superbook has helped me feel hopeful and happy, knowing that Jesus loves me.”
Thando now believes in God’s power to do miracles and heal people. He trusts God when he feels scared or alone. And he’s learning to share the love of Jesus with others.
“Superbook teaches me about who God is, and that makes me stronger and more confident every day!”
