"Strange Magic" and "Project Almanac" fall short of impressing movie critics judging family friendliness of films, and could be a good excuse to get your family together at home instead of going out.

Walt Disney's "Strange Magic" has the most potentional, but Plugged In movie reviewer Paul Asay still advises caution for families with small children, calling some scenes "creepy" and "Moulin Rouge-like."

Asay suggests "Project Almanac" doesn't even hit the target, much less the bullseye.

"Project Almanac is superficial, problematic and lame," Asay wrote. "The movie posits that physical attraction is the real basis for a good romantic relationship, with sex being its natural (and beautiful) culmination. It sees stealing school property—locked up for a good reason—as just good fun."

And if you're thinking about checking out "Black or White," starring Kevin Costner, Plugged In's Bob Waliszewski said it is a bust for family friendliness because of severe language.
