Preventing Drownings: Swim Lessons for Kids Who Otherwise Wouldn't Learn

An average of 10 people a day drown in the United States. Of those, two are under the age of 14. Almost all drowning victims are people who never learned to swim.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Rowdy Gaines is trying to make sure every child in American learns to swim, regardless of their ability to pay for lessons.

The U.S.A. Swimming Foundation's "Make A Splash" campaign is partnering with 700 places to offer swimming lessons for free or low cost. He details the suprisingly high number of people in our country who don't know how to swim and why they never learned this life-saving skill.
