Relationship Expert Offers Tip for Valentine's Anxiety

No matter your relationship status, Valentine's Day expectations can make the day more nerve-racking than heartwarming. What's an appropriate gift? How much should I spend? Where should we go?

As the questions pile up, so does the pressure.

Reporter Caitlin Burke spoke with relationship expert Sameera Sullivan to get some answers that will, hopefully, help you navigate Valentine's Day more confidently.

According to a National Retail Federation survey, the average American will spend more than $142 this year. That includes candy, flowers, clothing, jewelry, and more.

The Breakdown:

• 53 percent will buy candy, spending $1.7 billion total

• 38 percent will buy flowers, spending $2.1 billion

• 35 percent will plan a night out, spending $3.6 billion

• 21 percent will buy jewelry, spending $4.8 billion

• $1.5 billion will be spent on gift cards.
