In a state already dealing with an historic drought, water troubles could get worse for some California residents.

The board of Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is meeting Tuesday to consider reducing water service by 15 percent, beginning in July.

The cuts would be for more than two dozen cities and agencies serving 19 million people in Southern California.

The effects of the cuts would be different in various local water districts.

Areas that have fallen short in conserving water would have to take other conservation steps and boost water rates.
