Thoughts on Bob Slosser
When a writer goes to be with the Lord, it is a very emotional time. You see, Christian writers have a tendency to speak to us from the heart of God. They can be such a bright light in a darkened world. Bob Slosser was one of those bright lights that will truly be missed.
I have read the latest writings about his life, but more than that, I witnessed his life. He was always such an encouragement and strength. Even in his later years, with all the sickness and pain, he kept right on getting up and going. His daily articles on the CBN.com Website were such a blessing to so many people. The titles of his articles were so catchy. They made you want to read the article to see where he was going with that thought. He was truly one of a kind.
I, having been in and out of CBN over the last 25 years, have always seen him as a tower of strength. His smile was so warming and friendly. One of my times that I was away from CBN, I had the opportunity to baby-sit his grandson at a ladies Bible study. His grandson was so cute. I just loved him. Granted his grandson is grown up quite a bit by now, but that precious little face is still in my mind. I'm sure there is a great heritage in that child. He was Bob's grandson. That alone would be enough. I hope he will write like Grandpa Bob. Maybe he will remember the babysitter who loved him and played with him. (Ok, I know he won't.) But it was great to be a part of helping this "man of God" to raise his grandson in Jesus. At the Bible study day care, we would play, sing songs about Jesus, share a snack, clean up messy faces and hands, and read a Bible story. Each week it was such a joy to minister to those children.
Well, Bob is gone, but his memory will always be with us. His wife, children, and grandchildren will carry on the love of God where he left off.
I will miss seeing Bob's smile as he passes in the hall. We will all miss his writings and his great spirit. But he is in a far better place and he is encouraging us all to keep up the good work. This is one writer that, even though I am very new to this field, will always draw strength from knowing with God's help we can write and be a light. Thanks Bob.
