Hurricane Lockdowns, Secret Heart Attacks, and Near Death — But God
In September 2024, Michael Norman, his wife Francina, and their family were in London and Greece for their annual prophetic conference. It was a trip they had taken for over 30 years. This time, it would become the start of a life and death struggle.
Michael recalls, “I still had this nagging pain in my chest, which I thought it was just, again, my lungs, lungs are burning. As they were walking through the terminal to the next terminal through the airport, and I'm falling behind. So that’s basically how I chalked it up. I'm outta shape. I haven't run like that in a long time.”
Francina shares, “And he slept the whole time on the flight. And I was like; I need to watch this. Something is not right.”
After returning to Orlando on October 5th, Michael’s symptoms worsened. Walking upstairs left him breathless, and he experienced more chest pain.
Michael shares, “I had to lay back in the bed because I was like, I'm not getting any relief from this burning sensation in my in my chest.”
That night, the pain intensified. Thinking it was heartburn he asked to use Francina’s acid reflux medication.
Michael says, “I took medicine and nothing happened.”
By Tuesday night, Michael’s symptoms worsened. While Francina was leading a prayer call, the Holy Spirit prompted her to check on him.
Francina shares, “So I went back and by that time he had gotten up and he was throwing up.”
Francina rushed Michael to the hospital. As she drove, she heard God again.
Francina says, “The Holy Spirit is speaking to me, and he said he's having a heart attack.”
Michael’s first ekg appeared normal, but Francina insisted on more tests. A CT scan confirmed multiple heart attacks and blocked arteries. An emergency triple bypass surgery was needed.
Francina shares, “I came in this hospital with my husband and I'm leaving with my husband. I know about warfare, and I know that this was not only an attack naturally, but I know it was a spiritual attack.”
Michael was transferred to a specialized heart hospital. However, hurricane Milton, a category 3 storm, was making landfall which meant surgery had to be delayed. Doctors inserted a stent to buy time. As Francina prayed, she experienced a supernatural vision.
Francina remembers, “I saw my husband in a casket and I knew, I said,’ God, what is that?’ So I kept praying and crying out to God. And then about that fourth hour. All of a sudden, It was this bright light and it was this angel that came in the room. And he said to me, ‘The Lord told me to tell you that He's heard your prayers and he's taking care of the matter.’ And when he said that the burden just lifted. I just started thanking God and praising God.”
Global intercessors stood in faith with the Normans believing God for a miracle. On October 14th, Michael was wheeled into a six-hour surgery. Doctors feared he might not survive – or could suffer brain or kidney damage due to the prolonged procedure. In the midst of uncertainty, Francina never wavered.
Francina shares, “There was such a peace that surpassed all understanding it didn't make any sense. I just knew from that point on it was gonna be fine.”
As the head surgeon was about to finish the six-hour surgery, she heard a voice say, “check the other side.” There a previously undetected blockage was discovered. After surgery, Francina and her family were informed.
Francina says, “She said, now it is waiting to see if the kidneys will function to see if the lungs will function again. And I said, ‘he's gonna be all right.’ We just started praying. And I told him that I love him and that you did good.”
Michael remembers, “I looked around. I’m still here. I made it. I made it through. God did exactly what He promised he would do. When I came back and saw my wife, it was the, that's the best reunion in the world. My kids.”
Michael was placed on cardiac rehab, with recovery expected to take a week. Within days, he was up and walking. Medical reports showed no brain or kidney damage.
Francina says, “His recovery was so fast, it was so supernatural that I just was like, God, you are so faithful to us. You love us. And I was just praising God.”
Two months later, Michael returned to pastoring at the Movement Church International. A celebration was also held in his honor. The Normans are grateful for God who still answers prayer.
Michael says, “People from around the world were praying for me and interceding for me. And that means everything. He wants to be intimately involved in our everyday life. So, when we pray, we are literally inviting Him to be, be a part of our life experience.”
Francina shares, “When they say to me, you know, your husband is a walking miracle, nobody knows that better than me. Prayer is so essential. Not just look at it as a uh, you pray only when there's a crisis. Prayer is a necessity. Prayer is your connection to God. When you pray, you’re getting into the mind of God who will give you the strategies of what you need to do. Because if it had not been for prayer, I know for a fact the story would've been different. You cannot make it without prayer.
