Brenda’s Amazing Journey Back from Kidney Failure
“She was given pretty much a death sentence; we didn’t know what to do. Just like everything, just went downhill,” Ben recalled.
When Ben and Brenda got the news that Brenda was in end-stage kidney failure and needed a transplant, their lives were turned upside down.
“Because we thought that it was something that we could work with a diet when now we knew that it was her kidneys totally shutting down and it wasn't reversible,” said Ben.
With Brenda no longer able to work and Ben needing to be her caregiver, the couple’s income took a major hit.
Ben described, “I lost a lot of time at work because I would go to every single appointment. All the food prices were going up, everything was going up, so we were stretched financially.”
That’s when they turned to the Lighthouse Gospel Mission, a partner of Operation Blessing.
“God was just providing food and the next thing we knew we had our refrigerator full of food, we didn’t have to worry about it, and it made us feel good, because we just we had the evidence of God. It was a constant reminder how blessed we were,” said Ben.
During that time, they started going to church again. “Even though we were suffering through our own thing, we were actually doing a lot better at that time, because I had really gotten my life back with the Lord, so there was a little light of hope, so the only thing left was her healing,” said Ben.
They were told Brenda could wait three to five years for a kidney. But after just 10 months on the transplant list, Brenda got her new kidney, and soon made a full recovery. Now they are thriving, and both are serving in full-time ministry.
“We started to minister to others and let them know that there is hope,” said Ben.
Thanks to you, CBN Partners, Ben and Brenda got the help they needed to get through one of the most difficult times of their lives.
Ben concluded, “If you want really to impact and change a life, sow into Operation Blessing. Sow into the lives of those that have lost hope to give them hope. It exceeds a lot more than just a monetary gift, it’s a life being changed, and that life change can help change somebody else’s life.”
