Channa Is a New Creation
In the heart of Cambodia, an 11-year-old girl named Channa has experienced a remarkable journey of transformation. Having lost her father, Channa faced significant challenges from a young age. “My mother remarried, and we lived in poverty and deprivation until I became a malnourished child,” Channa recalls. The harsh environment, marked by a lack of food, clothing, and education, shaped her early years.
Concerned neighbors suggested that Channa’s mother take her to the Cambodian Hope Center, a place where she could receive proper nutrition, education, and safety. This move was a turning point in Channa’s life. Before coming to the center, she was selfish and lacked empathy. “I just did everything to meet my needs. I stole from others if I had the chance, I was selfish, I didn’t know how to share or I could be called a mean person,” she admits.
Channa’s life began to change when she encountered Jesus through episodes of Superbook shown at the Cambodian Hope Center. One episode, in particular, left a lasting impression on her—“The Road to Damascus,” the story of Paul’s conversion. “The most memorable and interesting story in the Bible is the story of the road to Damascus. God had a plan and chose Saul (Paul), a person who imprisoned believers in Jesus, to become an evangelist. This was a wonderful transformation,” Channa shares with a smile, “I decided to believe in Jesus.”
Through the lessons from Superbook, Channa learned about love, sharing, and giving to others. She began to help teach and take care of younger children at the center and assist the teachers. “I was not like before. I changed little by little without realizing it,” she reflects.
