Judge Resigns after Scathing Ferguson Report
Missouri's Supreme Court is assigning a state judge to handle all pending and future cases in Ferguson until further notice.
The move comes after a critical U.S. Department of Justice report was released prompted by the deadly police shooting last August of an unarmed black teen.
That report described the Ferguson's police and court systems as biased, money-making enterprises. And it alleged that both institutions violated civil rights.
Ferguson Municipal Judge Ron Brockmeyer resigned shortly after the Missouri Supreme Court announcement.
The DOJ study suggested Brockmeyer helped craft the Ferguson's policy of using its court as a revenue stream.
The order takes effect March 16. Appeals Court Judge Roy Richter will then hear all of Ferguson's pending and future cases.
