Brian Williams Under Fire, For Real This Time

NBC News Anchor Brian Williams didn't come under fire 12 years ago in Iraq, but he's catching plenty of flack after confessing to the truth.

In a statement on NBC Nightly News Wednesday, Williams admitted that his helicopter was not hit by enemy fire and forced down over Iraq in 2003 as he previosuly claimed.

He now says he was on a helcopter that was following the one that was hit and he confused the events in his mind.

Williams has told the story on at least two occasions, the last time just a few days ago at an event honoring veterans.

That prompted soldiers who were on the downed craft to speak out and the military paper Stars and Stripes published a story quoting their comments that Williams was not there.

That led to a statement from Williams recanting his story and offering an apology to the soldiers.

"I made a mistake in recalling the events 12 years ago," Williams said. "I want to apologize."

**Is an apology from Williams enough to save his credibility? Tim Graham, with the Media Research Center, spoke more about this with CBN News.
