So Much Better With Jesus
Keeping up with technology these days can feel overwhelming. Still, it is amazing to look back and see how far things have come, even during our lifetime.
I remember how monumental it was when our family bought our first VCR. I was in high school before we finally made this purchase; it was just something we had gone without growing up. Fast forward to today: technology like VCRs, DVD, and even Blu Ray players are seen as outdated. Yet, at one time, each of these were considered cutting edge.
Do you remember your first cell phone? Most of us had a flip phone or something with very few graphics. Smart phones, or even the ability to text each other, were not even invented yet. However, these phones opened a whole new world of communication and were amazing inventions.
And remember dial-up speed internet? Thinking about it now makes some of us start to twitch! At the time, we were in awe that we could connect digitally to other computers around the world. Now, we can do this through multiple devices, and much of it at the speed of light. My how things have changed!
Each of these examples now seem inferior compared to current technology and remind me in the natural of things in the spirit. The glory of what once was in the Old Testament through the law fades in comparison to the greatness of the finished work of Jesus.
He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life. The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away. Shouldn't we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God! In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way. So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever! (2 Corinthians 3:6-11 NLT)
The freedom we now have in Jesus causes the glory of the Old Covenant to pale in comparison. God’s law was full of glory, as it was a shadow and tutor to lead us to Christ (Galatians 3:24). It pointed to our glorious Savior—who alone could fulfill each of God’s righteous requirements. He has revealed His glory to all of us and invited us into unending fellowship with Him, face to face.
Father, thank You for sending Jesus to make us right with You. Thank You for fellowshipping with us and allowing us to behold Your glory. You have captured us with Your great love. May we shine today for You so that others may see Your glory and turn to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
