Reflection and Awe Lent Series - Operating in Freedom

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.–Romans 5:1-2 NLT

This passage of Scripture feels like the perfect way to close out this week. As we’ve begun to explore the freedom Christ has given us, we now have the opportunity to let that freedom shape and flow through our lives. In other words, we are free so that we can fully live in and enjoy the freedom He provides!

What does it look like to operate in this freedom?

Living in Christ’s freedom is marked by His grace and a profound sense of security in who we are as God’s children. It means walking through life as redeemed, restored, and renewed sons and daughters of God—fully aware of our identity in Him. When we embrace this freedom, we are no longer defined or swayed by the opinions of others or the shifting circumstances of the world. Instead, we live with boldness and wholehearted devotion to the things of God.

This freedom also fosters a deep gratitude in our hearts. We recognize that without Christ, we were bound by sin, destined for death. But through His sacrifice, we are no longer slaves to our sinful nature. The life we once lived had no future, but now, through Jesus, our lives are hidden in Him, and our future is secure in heaven.

Operating in this freedom means living in the reality that our debt has been paid in full—past, present, and future—and our inheritance in Christ is eternal. This awareness ignites gratitude that transforms how we think, act, and engage with others. Once bound, you are now set free to live abundantly, reflecting His love and glory in every aspect of your life.

Take a moment to pause and reflect. Close your eyes and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas where you might still be living with a captive mentality—holding onto fear, shame, or old habits. Invite Him to release those chains and lead you into a greater understanding of the freedom you have in Christ. Open your heart to His leading, stretch out your arms wide, and take a deep breath, letting His Spirit guide you into the wide-open spaces of His grace and love.

As we continue our journey through Lent, let’s remember the incredible price Jesus paid on the cross. His sacrifice opened the door to eternal life and abundant freedom. May we step boldly into this freedom, honoring His gift by living fully and freely for Him.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” –John 10:10 (ESV)
