Reflection and Awe Lent Series - Are You Available

During this Lent season, we focus on and reflect on Jesus' sacrificial love. This reflection reminds us of His servant spirit, which He displayed throughout His life on earth, culminating in His obedience to the cross. This same spirit calls us to be available and ready to serve when the Lord prompts us.

A servant spirit begins with availability. It’s not about being perfect or having everything figured out—it’s about surrendering our hearts to God and being willing to say yes. Isaiah captured this beautifully when he responded to God’s call: “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8, NIV). Similarly, young Samuel answered the Lord’s voice with humility and openness: “Speak, for your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:10).

As we reflect on Christ’s journey to the cross this season, we see the ultimate example of a servant spirit. Jesus, fully God and fully man, humbled Himself in obedience to the Father, even when it meant suffering and death. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine” (Matthew 26:39, NLT). Jesus' availability and willingness to serve the Father’s purpose brought redemption to the world.

God doesn't seek perfection. He doesn’t require us to have all the answers or to be polished and ready. Instead, He seeks those who are open and willing—those who trust Him enough to step out in faith and allow Him to work through them. As 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us, God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. When we submit ourselves to Him, He takes what we offer and uses it for His glory.

Are you ready to make yourself available for the Lord today? Are you prepared to be His hands and feet, carrying His love and message to the world around you? It might be as simple as a kind word, a listening ear, or an act of compassion. Small, faithful acts of obedience often lead to significant kingdom impact.

This Lent, let’s recommit our hearts to the Lord’s service. Let’s adopt the prayer of Isaiah: “Here am I, send me.” Let’s echo Samuel’s words: “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

A Prayer for Availability
God, today I want to live out the words of Isaiah in my own life: Here am I, send me. I don’t have it all together, but I am willing. I am available for You to use. I open my heart and my spirit to Your prompting. Give me ears to hear and hands ready to act on Your call. Let me be a reflection of Christ’s humility and obedience in everything I do. Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening. Amen.

May this Easter season inspire you to live with a heart ready to serve, trusting that God will use your availability to accomplish His purposes.
