In 2010, Nick, Carla, and their daughter moved to Tennessee, where Nick built and managed a new automotive supplier plant.

Carla, also in the automotive industry, had earned her MBA debt-free and negotiated multi-million-dollar supply contracts. While she shifted to working remotely, the growing demands of a high-paying career began to feel less rewarding.

Carla remembers: "As I was praying about whether I should stay at home, I felt in my heart that was the way the Lord was leading me and what he was telling me."

Despite losing 40% of their income, Nick and Carla never wavered in their tithing.

"God had blessed us and would continue to bless us if we followed his principles of tithing," Carla concluded.

In January 2016, Nick called Carla from his car with a message she hadn't expected: he was coming home early.

Nick recalls: "I said, well, don't be surprised when I show up at home in half an hour. Uh, I just lost my job. She said:" 'What?'

Cara says: "I think the biggest fear was ruining or losing everything that we had worked so hard to build."

With no income and a severance package that would only last a few months, Nick and Carla turned to prayer and trusted God's provision.

Nick remembers: "The biggest fear for me besides, obviously, taking care of the family, you know, positions that I had been elevated to through the prior 20 years are not growing on trees. So, it was like: 'hmm, I may not be able to replace that income.'"

The couple remained committed to tithing through it all.

Carla adds: "And we knew that we could trust."

Within two months, Nick found a job, but it was well below his previous salary and experience. Later that year, a better opportunity developed with a leading company that included a year-end bonus.

Nick says: "And they offered me a position that was, um, better compensation; so that year, I would venture to say that we made 25% more income than at any point in our life."

Then, in 2023, an unexpected reconciliation with the longtime mentor that had laid him off opened a new door for Nick—a position overseeing North American operations for a global company.

Nick adds: "I knew I couldn't carry that, uh, that, uh, bitterness towards him. So, you know, I reached out first, and lo and behold, we were working together again."

That renewed partnership led to a 25% jump in salary. The Proctors credit this to their faithfulness in giving and tithing. One place they support is CBN.

Carla reports: "I think they are all wonderful, whether it's Operation Blessing or Superbook or getting clean water to families and remote villages. I feel moved by all of it. I, I feel happy to support all of it."

The Proctors believe that tithing and giving are about stewardship, and through their generosity, they've seen God's faithfulness time and again.

Carla says: "I do believe that tithing is key to financial blessing because it's God's word. It's His direction to us."

Nick concludes: "We don't do it to receive, uh, we do it because we like to do it. We're supposed to do it. We're stewards of God's money, and, you know, we, we treat it as such."
