Orphan’s Promise Sews Hope in Young Naw Htoo

17-year-old Naw Htoo lives in a small village in Myanmar with her parents and two younger siblings. Due to the pandemic and the civil war, she was forced to drop out of high school. “When school closed my future seemed hopeless. I didn’t know what to do next. I couldn’t sleep,” she shares. Her dad could not work due to a heart problem, so Naw Htoo knew she would have to support the family.

She found the direction she needed at an after-school program in her community supported by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise. She learned some English, math, computer skills and how to sew. “After I started the sewing class, I knew I could help my family,” reveals Naw Htoo. The class not only taught her how to sew but how to design clothes as well.  Soon she was earning money to help her struggling family.  She shares, “I could buy food for my family and medicine for my dad.” In addition to the sewing classes, she watched CBN’S Superbook—which helped her to draw closer to God.
