From Hunger to Hero—Deni’s Transformation

When Deni was a baby, his father abandoned him and his mother.

“My mother had a very hard time providing for me singlehandedly.  Life was very challenging for both of us.” Deni

Deni juggled school and work, selling charcoal in the market

“I had to work, and work, and work to get by.  There were days I went to school without any breakfast or lunch.  I wanted to learn, but I was so hungry I could not concentrate.  I got kicked out of school whenever I could not pay my fees.  When I could pay my fees, I had missed so many classes people thought I was not very smart.” Deni

Deni prayed, and had faith that God would provide. God answered his prayer through Jacob, the pastor of the church his mother attended.  Jacob knew Deni’s mother couldn’t take care of him, so he offered to let Deni live in the church’s small children’s home.  Pretty soon, Orphan’s Promise helped all the children by building them a new home.  Orphan’s Promise also sponsored Deni through the rest of his secondary school and all the way through college.

“That was the icing on the cake. I could not believe Orphan’s Promise helped me with university, too.  They paid my tuition, my transportation, lodging, everything!  Thanks to that support, I was at the top of my class, and everyone considered me to be one of the smartest kids there.” Deni

Deni graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in development studies. Not only does he have a good job now, but he gives back.

“We go into communities, and decide how we can best help people.  If someone has land and is physically able, we give them seedlings so they can farm, sell in the marketplace, and support their kids through school. I always had an urge to help others, but I didn’t have any support myself.  Now I can give back to society, and that gives me peace of mind and great satisfaction. “ Deni

Today Deni is moving forward in his career while helping those in need around him.  He’s also engaged to the love of his life, and the two are planning their wedding together.

“I am filled with gratitude for everyone who helped me.  I am especially grateful for everyone who supported me through Orphan’s Promise. I pray the good Lord will continue to bless you and open more doors so you can keep helping children like me. Thank you so much.” Deni
