CBN.com “I wasn’t paying my bills and I was going downhill fast,” admits Gary Weitz. “That’s when I realized that there were big problems.”

Gary’s restaurant business was failing. In fact, he and his new wife, Debra, were $150,000 in business and credit card debt.

“I was on the verge of bankruptcy, not knowing what to do, not knowing which way to go, which direction to take,” he says.

Right before this troubling time, Gary became a Christian. He wanted to trust God with his finances, but he just didn’t understand tithing.

“It didn’t make sense to me to give money away when money wasn’t coming in, but I did that. I was obedient to that.”

Gary also learned from The 700 Club that he was on the right track.

So the Weitzes made a commitment to give ten percent of their income to God. Gary says God blessed their obedience with a new business opportunity: selling unique vacuum-molded business signs.

Says Gary, “I was so good at selling signs to business that I decided to open up my own company and did really well locally. But the Lord put upon my heart—I’m not sure how it came about— but Alaska came up.”

Sure enough, Gary’s signs could withstand the harsh Alaskan weather, and his signs were a hit. His new business boomed. In just a few months, Gary paid off his mortgage.

“It’s like a big boulder falling off your back, not to be a servant to the lender and not to have to be concerned about paying bills. It really is an awesome feeling,” he says.

Following the biblical principles on finances that he learned through CBN, Gary remains debt free to this day.

Gary and Debra have been debt free now for 14 years. They continue to give to their church and to support The 700 Club. They are also teaching their children the principles of giving. Gary says that tithing is no longer a mystery to him.

“You don’t give to get; you give to be obedient to God because that’s what it says in the Word,” Gary concludes.
