What if Your Home was Washed Away?

CBN.com -- Ten year old Israel knows the exact spot on the river bank where his home once stood. He remembers the hurricane, the flooding river, and mudslides.

“That really made me very, very sad, you know,” he says.

Israel’s grandparents lost their home too.

“We lost most of our material belongings, but thank God no one in our family died,” his grandfather remembers.

Before the disaster struck, Israel loved helping his grandfather with extra chores around their small farm. And he didn’t mind that his grandfather gave him a few coins for his hard work.

“I like to work helping my grandpa!” Israel exclaims. “He is very kind to me.”

But it’s what Israel does with the money he earns that makes him a hero. Every time he gets paid, he gives half of his earnings to his mother to help her buy food for the family.

“I feel so proud and happy to have a son like Israel,” his mother says. “He is such a blessing to us.”

Of course when the disaster struck, the greatest need for Israel and his grandparents was finding a new place to live. That’s where Operation Blessing provided some help.

In a location far from the river, we were able to secure some land there and built 20 new sturdy wooden houses.

“The sadness is gone now because I have a new house,” Israel says proudly.

In fact, Israel, his parents and grandparents all agree, the new houses are better than the adobe ones they lost in the storm.

“We are so thankful to Operation Blessing for this new, bigger house,” says Israel’s mother. “On behalf of my whole family, I want to say God bless you all. We are very happy.”
