Seventh Album from Rapper T-Bone Makes for a 'Bone-A-Fide' Hit
CBN.com (FRANKLIN, Tenn.) July 28, 2005— Rap artist T-Bone will release his seventh studio album, Bone-A-Fide, Sept. 27. The project is poised for a powerful debut with contributions by urban music’s most talented writers, producers and artists.
A pioneer of the gospel hip-hop movement for nearly 15 years, T-Bone has won many fans across music markets and listening backgrounds. Among his biggest proponents is the legendary production team of Buster & Shavoni, who signed on to spearhead T-Bone’s latest effort.
Executive producer Louis “Buster” Brown comments, “Right after we finished producing T-Bone on ‘To Da River’ for the MTV/Paramount Film ‘The Fighting Temptations,’ God spoke, telling me to carry T-Bone on my shoulders over to His ‘Promised Land.’ I said, ‘God…T-Bone is more than 200 pounds!’ But who can argue with God?”
Buster & Shavoni, having worked with best-selling artists Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, God’s Property as well as Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, among others, enlisted fellow producers Warryn Campbell (Missy Elliot, Snoop Dogg, Mary Mary), the Avila Brothers (Janet Jackson, Usher), Bosko (Limp Bizkit), Hallway Productions (Ice Cube, Blackalicious, Chief XL), Sway & Tech (Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G.), Fredwreck (Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg) and Darkchild Entertainment (Destiny’s Child, J-Lo, Michael Jackson, Kirk Franklin) for T-Bone’s largest collaboration to date. Fellow street rappers Mack 10 and Chino XL also joined Bone-A-Fide’s all-star cast.
“Bone-A-Fide is the most legitimate hip-hop record to come out of the CCM market,” says Troy Vest, vice president and general manager of Flicker Records. “Its reach is limitless. We expect it to resonate not only with Christian consumers but also hip-hop fans of all religions and cultures.”
Bone-A-Fide captures T-Bone’s versatility in a way that his previous albums have not. Songs like “12 Years Ago” crunch along on a rock guitar riff à la vintage Run-DMC and Beastie Boys, while club tune “Follow T” shows off T-Bone’s bilingual capabilities. “Hard Streets,” ironically, represents the softer side of T-Bone. Similarly, debut radio single “Can I Live” shows a more vulnerable T-Bone, who pleas with others to let him alone while he fulfills God’s calling on his life.
“My music is for everybody,” T-Bone asserts. “I don’t want a Muslim or a Hindu to hear music on my CD and say, ‘That’s not where I’m at. I made a universal record that everybody can play without a barrier restricting them from listening freely.”
The number one-selling gospel rap artist, T-Bone began his career in the early 1990s as a founding member of gospel music’s elite rap contingency. In addition to garnering numerous awards, he has rocked the mic alongside righteous artists from KRS-One to Yolanda Adams as well as given standout performances in the feature film and soundtrack The Fighting Temptations (with Beyoncé and Cuba Gooding, Jr.). His current acting project is the MTV Films/Paramount Pictures feature “Rumble,” starring hot R&B artist Ciara. T-Bone’s other recent guest appearances include a collaboration on tobyMac’s cut “The Slam” for upcoming film “The Transporter II” and on albums by Virtue as well as NBA All-Star Ron Artest. T-Bone’s work with Artest will be highlighted on an episode of “ESPN Hollywood,” scheduled to air in August. He can be seen regularly as host for TV music programs TX-10 (Dish Network) and Real Videos (TBN), the No. 1 youth show worldwide.
