The Re-Measure of a Man's Success
CBN.com - Dottie recalls the moment, "I remember crying just one last time. I said, 'Lord, you can have this stinking marriage if you think you can do something with it.'"
Scott and Dottie Boeving began like most couples, seeing themselves as one. But after thirteen years, Scott's appetite for success drove a wedge into the vow of unity they once pledged.
As a high-tech salesman, Scott worked long hours and traveled often. Even when he was home, the couple fought.
"I caused a lot of pain," Scott said. "I felt like I wasn't measuring up to what I should be as a father, a husband, and a human being."
Scott saw divorce as the only solution.
"I just threw myself on the bed and started crying," Dottie said. "I imagined myself as I was crying, divorced and raising kids without a dad, and it was frightening!"
But a week later, a couple, Jerry and Teresa Wolscon stopped to ask about some dogs Dottie had for sale. They noticed something was wrong.
"When we walked in the house, we knew immediately they were on the outs," Teresa said. "There was just something not right in their relationship."
Jerry said, "I could see the pain written across his face, and his wife's."
The Wolscons were Christians, and they began talking about Jesus. By the end of the afternoon, Dottie and Scott both had new relationships---in Jesus.
"When we stood up and I looked Dottie in the eyes, I knew the Lord had done what I asked, because I saw forgiveness in her," Scott said. Dottie said, "I was so happy! I just knew something miraculous had happened in that instant, and he became a new man."
But, how did Jerry and Teresa know the way to re-unite this couple?
They found the answer just a few years earlier on the "700 Club."
"I turned it on by accident, and there were two men on it," Teresa said. "One man was on his knees praying and then there was Pat Robertson."
Jerry said, "What he was saying just made perfect sense to me, and I began to recognize that there was something missing in my life."
Jerry committed his life to Jesus. And the Biblical principles taught on the 700 Club also helped Teresa in her search for truth about God. It wasn't long before Jerry found his new calling in life as a pastor. It was then that he and Teresa stepped into the Boeving's lives.
Today, Jerry is still bringing unity to broken relationships. He now leads a predominantly black church, breaking down racial barriers. He continues to see the impact of the 700 club.
Jerry said, "The 700 Club delivers on the Word of God. I have not seen anything communicate as far reaching as the 700 Club. It changed my life! It changed Teresa's life!"
What about the Boevings?
Scott and Dottie are still together after 31 years. Today, they stand unified with their two children and their families, passing on the legacy of their faith in God.
By the way, Scott and Dottie are CBN partners, supporting the ministry that helped restore unity in their lives.
"When I think of how the 700 Club's ministry affected our lives, I can't help but want to give to that," said Scott. "What's neat to me is no matter where I am I see the fruit of what CBN does. And I see that it's changing lives."
Time after time it's proven - a unified family stands strong. And where there are strong families, nations prosper. When you join the 700 Club, you help restore families and unite our country through the unifying power of Jesus Christ.
