CBN.com -- By the time Minh reached her 13th birthday, she had lost her mother to brain cancer.

“When mother died, it felt like my chest was about to explode,” she says. “It hurt so much.”

After the death of his wife, Minh’s father took to alcohol. Sometimes he turned violent toward his young daughter.

Minh recalls, “He was always drunk, always angry. He would shout at me, and he would sometimes hurt me.”

During one especially bad outburst, Minh’s father nearly destroyed their house.

“I was very afraid of my father. He scared me,” she says.

In one of his sober moments, Minh’s father realized that he was hurting his daughter, so he took her to live at this children’s home supported by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise.

“There were two girls who welcomed me warmly and, to this day, we have become close friends,” says Minh. “The three of us share stories late into the night.”

Minh is happy at her new home. She eats nutritious meals three times a day and is making good grades in school. She says, “I love literature. Maybe I will be a teacher in the future.”

Minh’s new house mother at the CBN-sponsored home is providing her with all the love she needs. That makes Minh feel very secure.

“I am no longer afraid. I feel safe here. Thank you, CBN, for your support.”
