How CBN's Operation Blessing is Responding to the Japan Crisis

CBN.com VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – I just spoke with David Darg who arrived in Japan about 6 hours ago. He has already attended a meeting at the nerve center of a Christian consortium named CRASH (Christian Relief Assistance Support & Hope). CRASH is a consortium of churches and mostly American missionaries living in Japan formed to respond to the disaster. David was told that OB is the first U.S. NGO to arrive in Japan and join the group. He says that the people in the group are very enthusiastic and willing to help in a variety of ways. This is a great first step in OB’s relief efforts. Now we have access to a network of Christian volunteers that speak Japanese, have transportation, and know the lay of the land.

Help disaster victims now

There is 13 hour time difference in Japan, so it’s about 8 a.m. here in Virginia and 9 p.m. in Tokyo. David is going to bed now, but will be up early to purchase lots of bottled water and drive to the area where thousands of thirsty people are hunkered down, having been evacuated from their homes because of the nuclear plant explosion.

David says Tokyo is surreally quiet. What is usually a packed city, buzzing with shoulder-to-shoulder activity, is almost deserted. Hardly any cars on the streets, the trains are shut down and the few people seen outside are wearing white masks, walking fast with their heads down. The threat of radioactivity, on top of the horrible images coming across the TV screens, makes Japan a very scary place to be. David says smell of fear hangs heavy in the air.

Please pray for David and for all the people of Japan,

Bill
