Heading Down to Shantytown
The kids are smiling. Maureen Mhkize is smiling too, because she knows that a simple meal and some clothing can make such a difference in the lives of the children of the shantytowns of South Africa. She knows because it made a difference for her!
“My life was very reckless because I didn’t know God … I didn’t know anything,” she says.
Like these children, Maureen received the help she needed from Operation Blessing and Messiah Ministries, and she received something else -- the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Shantytowns dot the horizon here in South Africa. The people struggle because of double digit unemployment and unbearable poverty. Into this great need came Operation Blessing, joining with Messiah Ministries, to help change lives.
“We are actually really blessed with our connection with CBN,” says Graham Green, with Messiah Ministries, “because CBN has really come to our aid, helping us with the food parcels that we distribute.”
And it was here that your gifts to CBN helped to touch Maureen’s life too!
“I received Jesus as my Lord, and it was then that my life changed.”
By the way, because the Lord has touched her life, Maureen has now started helping Messiah Ministries to reach out to others. In fact, if you ask the kids, they’ll tell you that Maureen is more than a volunteer -- she’s like a grandma to them!
Maureen knows that the needs of her community are great, but she also knows the power of the gospel to change lives is even greater.
