Falling Snowflake Saved by Grace
It is known as the "roof of the world" -- a peaceful place, full of mysterious traditions and crowned with the bluest skies on earth. With an average altitude of more than 10,000 feet above sea level, the Ching - High-Tibetan Plateau is the worlds highest region inhabited by man. Its also home to a precious little girl named Snowflake.
Snowflake was born in the middle of a summer snowfall in a very poor and remote village. By looking at her beautiful smile, youd never guess that Snowflake once struggled with a disease that threatened her life.
Unfortunately, because of a lack of quality medical care in the highland area, Snowflakes parents werent able to adequately address their daughters illness until CBN Chinas medical team came to visit.
"We didnt know what was wrong with Snowflake, but the doctor finally discovered that she had a heart problem, so we came here straight away," remembers Snowflakes mother.
"Snowflakes heart disease is a birth defect," explains Dr. Zheng, a cardiologist. "It is a very serious condition, complicated by a number of problems. Its very common in high-altitude regions, like the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, occurring in more than 10 percent of the population.
Thanks to Gods mercy, CBN cardiology experts from Beijing were able to examine Snowflake and catch the illness before it was too late.
"Snowflake was born with this heart disease, and if she didnt have surgery at this time, it would evolve into an even more serious problem, which would then be impossible to treat," says Dr. Li.
Snowflakes surgery was complex, and her tiny, frail body struggled to survive. The procedure, which usually takes two hours, required six to complete!
During this difficult time, CBN staff stood vigil with Snowflakes family, offering them comfort and prayers of support.
Finally, Snowflake emerged from the surgery. Doctors had been able to repair her damaged heart! .
Today, Snowflake is a healthy six year old, with a new lease on life and a smile that says Thank you to those who gave her life.
But Snowflake isnt the only child who needs medical attention in this poor highland region of China. Thats why CBN China is committed to bring medical teams across the nation, presenting the love of Christ in very practical ways to people just like little Snowflake.
