Earthquake Starts Chain Reaction
CBN.com -- Sigit of Indonesia never imagined that the May 2006 earthquake in his hometown would bring blessings into his life.
Before an earthquake shook Java, Indonesia, the 23-year- old worked hard to provide for his family. In fact he had two full-time jobs.
He sold tropical fish by bicycle, and then in the evening he helped his friend run an Internet café.
But there was never enough money, and that often led to conflicts with his wife.
“You cannot feed your children. That hurt me so bad,” she says.
One morning an earthquake destroyed Sigit’s town. That is when he met CBN's Operation Blessing (OB), who was bringing relief supplies to the area. Over the next several months, Sigit volunteered many hours helping his neighbors to rebuild and became friends with the OB staff.
“I saw that Operation Blessing people were always happy when helping others,” he says.
One day, Sigit’s life changed when he witnessed the leader of Operation Blessing team pray for a stroke victim who had been paralyzed for two years. The woman was able to stand — and walk!
“When I saw it, I had goose bumps,” he says. “I never saw something like this happened. I thought there must be something behind this miracle.”
That night, some Operation Blessing staff members shared the Gospel with Sigit — and he prayed to receive Jesus as his Savior. A short time later, Operation Blessing offered this diligent volunteer a job. Now, Sigit is able to provide for his family more than ever.
“I never thought that an earthquake could open a way for me to know Jesus,” Sigit says. “I really thank Operation Blessing for everything that you have done for me.”
