Conquering a $20,000 Debt

CBN.com -Diane Monahan’s bowling league needed new shirts.  Since she had a good sewing machine at home, she decided to do the embroidery herself.

“I ended up selling a lot of them.”

She knew she had the beginnings of a business.  She got a $9,000 embroidery machine and quickly paid it off.  she runs a thriving business out of her home, and attributes her success to tithing.

“I know it works. I believe 100 percent in it.”

Though she’s been a Christian most of her life, tithing is something relatively new for Diane.

“My thoughts to that were like a lot of people, that that was Old Testament, that it wasn’t really for today.”

A few years ago, Diane was working in the automotive parts industry.  She had more than $20,000 in credit card debt and money always seemed tight.  But after watching the 700 Club, and seeing Pat Robertson teach about giving, she started tithing.

“The money seemed to stretch further.  And as you get cards paid off, then that money is extra you can start paying on something else, until you can get the debt paid off, and then you can start living more comfortably.”

She gave to her church and to ministries like CBN.  She was already tithing when she first started her business, and she got customers and large orders immediately. Then she recalculated how she tithed and started giving less.

“And when I did, I started having some mistakes and I started having not as much business.  So I went back to tithing 10% on everything, and after that I had no problems, and business is constant.”

Diane paid off all of her credit card debt.  In the past two years, she bought about $50,000 worth of equipment.  She owns it free and clear, and looks forward to continued success with her business.

“It doubled after the first year, and it’s going to probably more than double this year.  I am fully aware that I’m blessed. It makes me feel like I have no worry in the world, whatever happens, God’s going to be there to take care of it. I’m just excited and waiting to see what god has in store.”

Being obedient to God's truth made an incredible difference for Diane. She made it possible for God's love to flow through them to others, and she is reaping a blessing for herself as well.
