Chanda's Surprise Surgery
CBN.com Sat Bean of Cambodia and her husband were excited about the birth of their eigth child. Somehow Sat Bean knew it would be a little girl.
“I had given birth to seven boys, but this time it felt different. I knew it would be a baby girl because I had been praying for one for years,” she says.
Their lives are simple, but good. Sat Bean, her husband, and children live off the food that they grow. But when baby Chanda was born with a severe cleft palate, Sat Bean wondered what would lie ahead.
“When I saw her deformity, I was so sad for her future," she recalls.
Sat Bean knew they did not have the means to repair the baby’s cleft palate, and they wondered if she would die because she was unable to nurse. The family bought expensive milk formula for Chanda, which taxed their finances to the limit. In fact, several of their sons had to drop out of school because there was no money to pay the modest school fees. In the end, they sold their land and their only means of growing food.
“Life had become so difficult for us. We didn’t know what the future would hold," says Sat Bean.
During that time, Operation Blessing came to a nearby village. The family borrowed money just to get the mission site. Operation Blessing doctors examined baby Chanda and told the family the good news... that Chanda could have a free operation to repair her cleft lip and palate.
Just before the surgery, Sat Bean had this to say: “I am nervous that my baby has to undergo surgery, but I trust the doctors, because they said they can repair her mouth."
The surgery was a success, and just a few weeks later, Operation Blessing went back to Sat Bean’s home to see how baby Chanda was doing. She is doing great!
And to help the family get back on their feet financially, Operation Blessing brought them a cash gift—enough to buy back the land they had been forced to sell.
"Now I know that life will get back to where it was. It will even be better! Isn’t our baby beautiful? Thank you Operation Blessing," says Mrs. Bean.
