From Break-In to Break Through
Kemi had no peace of mind, no joy. She was searching for meaning in her life. She was born a Muslim and lived according to the tenets of Islam, but she longed for something more.
“I patronized witch doctors and they demanded chickens and all sorts for sacrifice just to consult the spirits for me,” Kemi said.
Cyprien, a Christian living in Kemi’s Nigerian village, tried to tell her about Jesus, but she wouldn’t listen.
Cyprien gave Kemi tapes of The 700 Club. “I decided to give her tapes of [the show] because the program is anointed of God, and I’ve witnessed many miracles through it,” he said.
One night, Kemi decided to watch the tapes Cyprien gave her. She heard a noise outside. Then the door flew open and a gang of robbers entered her home.
Kemi was very afraid! “I made a promise to God, saying ‘Oh Lord, if only You’d deliver me from this trouble, I’ll accept Jesus and follow Him as the Lord of my life.’”
At that very moment on the television, Pat Robertson began to pray. Instantly, something strange happened.
“Jacob, the leader of the gang, dropped to the floor,” Kemi recalled.
Jacob felt a strong whirlwind hit him and he fell to the ground. When he fell, the other three gang members fled.
“I couldn’t get up for around for 15 minutes,” explained Jacob. “I saw someone as white as an angel telling me to accept Christ.”
“When he came around he was screaming my name,” Kemi said, “asking me to help him. He said he wanted Jesus in his life!”
“The guilt of my sins bore down on me,” Jacob shared. “I wanted to accept Christ. I knew I’d have peace and a change of life if I did.”
Kemi sent for Cyprien, who prayed with Jacob.
“As he prayed for me,” said Jacob, “I felt a great peace in my heart. For the first time in years, I smiled a genuine smile. I knew I’d never go back again. I was happy!”
Jacob didn’t have a job, so Cyprien bought him a motorbike, which he uses as a taxi. Jacob still sees some of his former gang members.
“I faced a lot of opposition from them initially, but God gave me victory. Now they come near to hear my story and I preach to them. Two of them are already Christians.”
The experience changed Kemi’s life, too, and she accepted Christ.
“Before, I never believed that Jesus was Lord. But when I saw that wonder in my life and the other robbers running away while their leader was on the floor, then I believed that, indeed, Jesus is Lord!”
“I can do nothing without Jesus, only follow,” Kemi said. “I believe God saved and delivered me because He desires for me to follow Him. He wants to show me that Jesus is the way, there is none other. Witch doctors are not the way. All they did was to demand, and gave nothing in return. But Jesus? Took no money, no animal sacrifice – just spread His grace upon me. CBN, I’m very thankful. I’ve found salvation and healing through your program. Thank you!”
