Black Magic Backfires

John Alikpo works as a commercial motorcycle driver near his home in Nigeria.  For his efforts he makes about 3 dollars a day.    It’s barely enough to care for his family of eight.

With the finances so tight, John began to feel the pressure.  That’s when a “friend” suggested that John try a little black magic to make his financial troubles go away.

“I was told I could get power, riches, and fame,” says John.  “After a while, I could actually cast spells and make people ill unto death — even Christians.

John practiced the dark arts for ten years.  He reveled in the powers he seemed to possess and the money it made him.  Unfortunately, that money was spent as quickly as it came in.

Then one night, John had a dream.

“I was in a dungeon and held captive by strong, hefty men,” John tells.  “I tried to free myself by invoking spirits and using my charms, but nothing worked.  Then a voice whispered to me to call on the name of Jesus. But how could I, when I’d hated Him and His followers for ten years!  I eventually did and to my surprise, I was set free!”

John woke up more confused than frightened.  He needed answers and knew only one man who could help — a man he once hated because he was a Christian.

When John came calling, Cyprien welcomed him with open arms. He invited him to watch a favorite TV program with him, The 700 Club

“I watched The 700 Club at that meeting. I couldn’t believe my eyes.  I watched the story of a man just like me!  He’d hated Christians, but when the Lord touched him, he repented.”

John renounced his involvement in the occult, and prayed to receive Jesus as his Savior.  The change that came over him was evident to all.

“John is a changed man,” says his friend and neighbor.  “Jesus really touched his life.  Now he doesn’t believe in black magic only in the power of God.”

As a declaration of his faith, John burned all of his charms and occult materials.

Today he doesn’t make a lot of money, but is living a life of contentment. He is secure in the knowledge that God will provide for his family and thankful for CBN Partners who brought the Gospel through television so he could see it.

“Thank you for your programs, CBN.  Without them, my eyes may still have been blinded by false religion.  I’ve been set free!”
