A Big Miracle for a Little Boy
CBN.com Surgery saved six-year-old Gugun’s life but plunged his parents deeply into debt.
His brother and sister also paid a dear price for their brother’s health.
Yet Gugun needed additional surgery, the family grew desperate until folks like you stepped in to help.
His mother recalls her son saying, “It is all right, Mom. I will die anyway.” She said, “Don’t say that! I don’t want to lose you!”
Six-year-old Gugun was born a healthy little boy, but as he grew up in Indonesia, he developed hirshprungs disease, an inflammation of the bowel.
Without surgery, Gugun would die.
Sadly, the family couldn’t afford the operation that would save his life.
His mother tells CBN, “Where would we get the money? His father lost his job. There was no hope for Gugun.”
“I used to work in a factory but they laid me off,” says Gugan’s father. “I have three children, and my wife is not working. I don’t know where we will get food.”
In desperation, Gugan’s dad turned to his neighbors for help -- a common practice in Indonesia.
He went from house to house asking for donations. He raised a third of the funds needed to pay for the operation.
The local hospital agreed to perform the surgery, but Gugan’s dad had to agree to pay the rest of his medical bill over time. But that proved problematic…
“I couldn’t afford the monthly payments. But I did manage to pay $50 a month,” he says.
To help pay for the surgery, the family had to use money they had set aside for school fees for their three children. That meant Gugun and his brother and sister were forced to drop out.
After the first surgery to repair Gugun’s intestine, he seemed to improve. But in the end, there was no money left to reverse the colostomy, and this time doctors refused to help the boy without payment.
His father remembers thinking, “How could I ask the neighbors again for donations for Gugun’s surgery?”
That’s when Operation Blessing came alongside the family to help.
Operation Blessing arranged and paid for Gugan’s second surgery, and today, a once sick child has become a fully functioning little boy.
He can now run and play with his friends.
By the way, Operation Blessing has also paid the school and book fees so that all three children can now return to school!
“It was like a dream,” his father says. “I didn’t expect someone to help. I am really thankful.”
His mother agrees. “I feel so happy now. Gugun is healed and normal. If no one helped, he would not be healed.”
