You Can Tell Him All Your Problems

Preethi grew up in an impoverished part of India.  From the beginning, her life was even harder than most people’s in her community.

Preethi explained, “My father committed suicide when I was 1-year-old, so I never experienced a father's love and affection.”

Her mother could barely support her, and could rarely pay school fees, so Preethi got a late start on her education.  As the years went on, she grew more and more depressed.

Preethi’s mother, Pramila, said, “I tried, but Preethi and I did not have a good relationship.  She did not listen to me and was very disobedient.  She only sat in a dark corner of the house to be by herself.  She struggled every day with depression, but I could not do anything about it.”

Then Preethi’s mom met a pastor and talked to him about all her problems.  The pastor introduced her to Dr. Sybil, the woman in charge of the Orphan’s Promise Scholarship Program in central India.  Orphan’s Promise offered to pay for Preethi to go to school.

Preethi said, “I jumped at the chance to get a good education.  At school, Dr. Sybil showed an animated series called SuperBook.  I was amazed watching all the stories.  My favorite episode is ‘Jesus Raises Lazarus.’  I was so excited to learn about Jesus’ miracles, and how His presence can give us new hope.  I was so happy Dr. Sybil showed us this program.

Dr. Sybil said, “The big influence in her life was SuperBook, because of all the stories in it that she could relate to her own life that, how Jesus can transform her life.”

Preethi explained, “After watching the SuperBook stories, I prayed to God, and told Him all of my problems. He gave me hope, and I started going to church.”

Dr. Sybil said, “Preethi’s character changed from being a stubborn and disobedient child, all of the bad things that were there in her life had gone.”

Preethi said, “After accepting Jesus, I felt very relaxed and happy, and I was making a lot of new friends.  I continually prayed for my mother and always found hope in the Word of God. When I was home on holidays, I talked to her about the Bible and we read it together.”

Pramila said, “Preethi is a changed girl today. She is very happy and caring. She helps me with housework and shows me lots of love.”

Today, Preethi leads devotions and teaches Bible classes, music, and dance to kids in the scholarship program. She’s also finishing a certification course to become a medical lab technician.

Preethi said, “After a dark and sad childhood, I am dreaming of a better future. Jesus made the impossible things possible in my life. I will always be indebted and full of gratitude to Orphan’s Promise for all of your help, and for introducing me to Jesus through SuperBook. Thank you.”
