Day 18

|
Today, ask the Holy Spirit to give you the grace to not worry about your problems. Instead, tell God what you need in prayer and thank him for all he has done. When you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. The Bible promises that then His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6-7)
Peace — it is one of the loftiest goals of men. Individuals seek for it in their lives. Families seek for harmony in their homes. Nations seek for it among other nations.
But peace is so often elusive in this life.
In order to experience true peace, we must first recognize that because of His great love, God sent His only Son to restore peace between Himself and man and to die on the cross for our sins, enabling all men to come to God the Father through Him (John 3:16-18).
The Bible calls Jesus the "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6). He came to earth to bridge the gap between sinful man and a Holy God.
For He Himself is our peace and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall. —Eph. 2:14
We can only experience true peace in our lives when Jesus is ruling as Lord. When we surrender our will to His then He brings His peace into our lives.
Jesus said,
I give you peace, the kind of peace that only I can give. It is not like the peace that this world can give. So don't be worried or afraid. —John 14:27
As we learn to walk each day in the power of the Holy Spirit, we will begin to experience the peace that is promised as part of the "fruit of the Spirit" (Gal. 5:22; Isaiah 32:17). Every time anxiety creeps into our lives, we can turn to the Lord and "God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand" (Phil. 4:7).
So if you're lacking peace today, cry out to the Lord and ask Him to come into your life and grant you His peace. Spend time reading the Word of God, praying, and praising the Lord. And make sure you spend time in fellowship with other believers.
The Bible instructs us to fix "our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete" (Heb. 12:2). As we change our focus — off of our problems and onto the Lord — His peace will fill our lives.
