Day 17

Pray for Christian missionaries and aid workers around the world. Ask God to send His holy angels to protect them. Ask God to dispatch his mighty angels in battle against the forces of evil in our world. Pray that the body of Christ will be strong. Pray that all in ministry for the sake of the gospel will be encouraged and will see abundant results as the outcome of their co-labor with Christ.
This week we heard the sad news that a female Christian aid worker was murdered by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Gayle Williams, a South African-British national who served handicapped Afghans, was savagely gunned down while walking to work. It is a grim and brutal reminder that we live in a world at spiritual war.
Many voices warn us that we are in a paramount struggle of cultures. Islam is a political system that seeks, as its name reveals, submission. There is no tolerance for those who become Christians and no tolerance for those who are Christians. Crimes against Christians are growing throughout the Muslim world.
Please pray today for all those who are serving Jesus in a hostile world. The Bible reminds us:
Once you were dead, doomed forever because of your many sins. You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan, the mighty prince of the power of the air. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. —Ephesians 2: 2
Each of us was lost, but someone came and brought us the words of life. Someone prayed for you and told you the good news, that God loved you and sent His son, Jesus to die on the cross and pay the penalty for your sin.
Pray for the battle we are in today. Pray that Muslims the world over would receive Jesus as their Savior. Pray for Hindus and Buddhists and all who are lost, apart from Jesus. And take time to thank God for the Christians who have chosen to follow Christ to the most difficult places on earth. May God bless them and protect them.

And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy He knew would be His afterward. Now He is seated in the place of highest honor beside God’s throne in heaven. Think about all He endured when sinful people did such terrible things to Him, so that you won’t become weary and give up. —Hebrews 12: 1b-3
