Urgent Call to Prayer with Pat Robertson

Join me for 30 days of prayer for our nation and the world.

Day 14

Pray that God would give you the grace to be faithful in the ministry that He has given to you until He gives you promotion to the next ministry. Ask the Lord to help you to stay humble in your service to God. Pray that you would have a servant's heart like Elisha, serving faithfully where the Lord places you..

Elisha was a faithful servant to Elijah and had served him and learned at his side. When it was time for the Lord to take Elijah to heaven, he told Elisha to leave him. But this prophetic disciple would not abandon his teacher.

Then Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to Jericho." But Elisha replied again, "As surely as the Lord lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you." So they went on together to Jericho. —2 Kings 2:4

Elisha followed Elijah to the Jordon river, where the elder prophet struck the water with his cloak and they both walked over on dry ground. On the other side Elijah asked the younger prophet what he could do for him before God took him away.

...And Elisha replied, "Please let me inherit a double share of your spirit and become your successor. You have asked a difficult thing," Elijah replied. "If you see me when I am taken from you, then you will get your request. But if not, then you won't." —2 Kings 2:9

The Bible says that as they were walking, suddenly a chariot of fire appeared and carried Elijah into heaven.

Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, "Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?" Then the river divided, and Elisha went across.
—2 Kings 2:9b-13

The Bible tells us that Elisha received the double portion of Elijah's anointing. We count exactly twice as many miracles performed by Elisha in his remarkable ministry. God gave Elisha this gift because he was first faithful to the Lord, then faithful to Elijah, and then he was persistent in seeking the things of God.

Elisha's provides us with an excellent example as we seek God's favor and blessing for our lives and ministries. We need to be faithful in seeking the Lord. We need to be faithful in the task that is set before us. And we need to be persistent in prayer.

He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you? And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?
—Luke 16:10-12
