Superbook Reaches Indigenous Children in Costa Rica
In the lush, remote region of Alto Palmera in Costa Rica, a quiet but powerful movement is taking root. Recently, the Superbook team returned to this indigenous community, where cultural traditions and spiritual beliefs are deeply woven into daily life. While our partner ministry, Operation Blessing, worked alongside local mothers on a micro-enterprise project, Superbook had the joy of spending time with their children—bringing the message of Jesus in a way that honored their culture and opened their hearts.
Reaching this community is no small task. After a beautiful three-hour drive from the capital, the team arrived in what felt like paradise. But the real beauty was in what happened next.
Despite the cultural differences and spiritual barriers, the Superbook team came with one mission: to share the love of Jesus, the only true and living God. They began by showing the Superbook episode “Baptized!”—a story that introduces the Gospel through the journey of Joy and Chris as they help their friend Ellie meet Jesus.
The children were captivated.
What followed was a creative and deeply meaningful activity called the Prayer Garden. Each child was invited to decorate stones—each one representing a prayer of thanksgiving or a special request. These stones were then placed in a garden, symbolizing their trust in God to care for their hearts and hopes.
The children didn’t stop at one stone. Many decorated four, five, or more—pouring their creativity and sincerity into each one. This activity beautifully connected their love for nature with the concept of prayer, helping them begin a relationship with the one true God.
Out of about 20 children who attended, two made the decision to accept Jesus into their hearts. It may seem like a small number, but in a place where the Gospel is just beginning to take root, it is a powerful start. Seeds of faith have been planted, and we trust that God will continue to water them.
The team left with full hearts and great anticipation for their next visit—when they’ll celebrate the graduation of the mothers and bring more surprises for the children.
This is the heart of Superbook’s mission: to bring the truth of God’s Word to every corner of the world, in ways that are spiritually rich and deeply transformative.
