A Mom Who Wouldn’t Give Up
When her husband abandoned the family, it fell to Kedsarin (pronounced Ket-sarr-in) to provide for her two sons and disabled mother.
“It’s exhausting to look for ways to earn money for our needs,” she admitted. “I get discouraged, but I keep going every day for the sake of my family.”
Kedsarin found two jobs: one washing dishes at a small restaurant; the other hauling produce at the market. For both jobs, she earned two dollars a day – barely enough for food. When she couldn’t work, they went hungry.
“I am hungry all the time,” her son, Bas, said. “When I can’t stand the stomach pains, I ask my friends at school for food. Mom borrows rice from the neighbors or money to buy food. I tell her not to borrow too much. I want her to get out of debt.
Occassionally, 12-year-old Bas brings a little leftover food from his school lunch to share with the family.
“It’s never enough for all of us. I wish I had money to buy eggs and noodles for them. I worry that we will always struggle with hunger,” Kedsarin said, discouraged.
Then, CBN’s Orphan’s Promise met Kedsarin and gave her what was needed to start a business selling snacks at a nearby school. We taught her how to run the business and manage her money as well. Today, Kedsarin said her income is seven times ($15) what she used to make working two jobs! She’s paid off her debt, and her family doesn’t go hungry anymore.
“Now, we have delicious food to eat everyday,” Bas said, excitedly. “My mom even gives me an a few coins to buy a snack at school.”
Kedsarin also expressed her sincere gratitude. “Life used to be so difficult for us. But Orphan’s Promise saw our need and made things better. I’m deeply grateful for the compassion you showed our family. Thank you very much!”
