Most known to us for his starring role in Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ, actor Jim Caviezel took some time this past summer during a break from filming CBS' Person of Interest to work on a new project from Affirm Films about legendary high school football coach Bob Ladouceur.

Affirm Films may not be a familiar studio name to you, but you are likely familiar with their recent faith-filled releases, Soul Surfer and Courageous. A division of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Affirm looks to play an even bigger role in bringing Christian films to theaters with the upcoming releases of Mom's Night Out (a comedy starring Patricia Heaton and Sean Astin) and Heaven Is For Real (inspired by the Colton Burpo story, and starring Greg Kinnear).

When The Game Stands Tall specifically tackles the inspiring true story of Coach "Lad" (Caviezel) and his team's incredible winning streak from 1992 to 2003. It's a "resounding testimonial about how much more kids can achieve when they are challenged with responsibility and commitment", says producer David Zelon.

In an official news release, Steve Bersch, president of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, adds: "The story of When The Game Stands Tall resonates far beyond football or sports in the way all great sports films do.  At its core, this is a timeless and universal story about character, hard work and love. Coach Lad’s inspirational and unyielding focus on building integrity, discipline, faith and commitment above all else is his foundation for excelling in coaching and life, and is what gives this story its unique power and magic."

Also starring Michael Chiklis (The Shield), Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) and Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games), When The Game Stands Talll is currently scheduled to release September 2014.
