Building a Future, One Chicken at a Time

Phoun Pov (pronounced Fawn-pove) has been raising her daughter alone ever since her husband abandoned them. It’s been a constant financial struggle for the single mom.

“I try to do everything I can to provide for my daughter.  I only have enough food for us for one day,” she explained.

Phoun Pov earns a little money by digging earthworms and other insects to sell around her village in Cambodia.  She’s also raising a few chickens.

"I felt so sorry for my mom when I saw her working so hard,” her daughter told us.  “I wanted to drop out of school to help her, but she said to keep studying.  I remember many days when all we had to eat were two potatoes.

Phoun Pov is a Christian and attends church with her daughter.  That’s where she learned about CBN’s Orphan Promise.  Thanks to YOU, we gave her 40 laying hens for eggs and 18 roosters to sell for meat.  We also gave her two chicken coops so she can expand the business.

“I was so excited when I saw the hens and roosters from Orphans Promise! I was so relieved!” she exclaimed.

Phoun Pov told us her business is already growing.  Now she has enough money to buy food and to pay for other expenses.

"I’m so happy now,” Phoun Pov said, joyfully.  I can support my family by raising and selling chickens!  Since you gave us the chickens, I’ve raised and sold them THREE times and made about $100-dollars profit. I also used that money to buy more chickens to grow my business.  Thank you to all the people who helped us through Orphan’s Promise!”
